Apprenriceship Week

Careers and Apprenticeships 2017

Tameside Council’s annual Careers and Apprenticeships Exhibition took place on 22nd June 2017 at Stalybridge Civic Hall. The Council’s Employment and Skills Team organised a ‘have-a-go’ event for Year 9 and 10 students from Secondary schools across the borough and is designed to support schools in delivering effective Careers, Information, Advice and Guidance (CEIAG).

With around 1,000 pupils from 13 Tameside schools attending the exhibition throughout the day, Stalybridge Civic Hall was thriving with youth and enthusiasm.

A total of 39 exhibition stands including TMBC’s very own Engineering Team (Mason Paviour), allowed pupils to engage with various businesses and learning providers to discuss their future education and career pathways. Other exhibitors with activities at the event were Greater Manchester Police, National Health Service, Cogent Skills, Purple Wi-Fi, Juice Academy and our local training providers Tameside College, Clarendon Sixth Form and Ashton Sixth Form.

All the interactive activities delivered throughout the day succeeded in engaging pupils in areas they may have not taken an interest in prior to the event. Pupils took part in; block paving with TMBC Engineering, ‘Your STEM Choice’s’ decision-making activity with Cogent Skills, Virtual Welding with Tameside College, trying on riot gear with Greater Manchester Police and, with thanks to Haywill Animal Rescue showing animal care and veterinary roles, there was an appearance from the lovable duo of a therapy Chihuahua and an Albino Hedgehog much to the delight of the pupils (and adults)!

With the support of Council volunteers and Student Ambassadors from Tameside College and Clarendon Sixth Form, the event was a great success!
